MASONIC ASTRONOMY

. | . ONE GOD IS THE AUTHOR OF LIFE . | . THE SOUL OF MAN IS IMMORTAL . | . REVERENCE FOR GOD IS EXEMPLIFIED BY ACTIONS TOWARD MEN . | .
"God himself culminates in the present moment and will never be more divine in the lapse of all the Ages ... The oldest Egyptian or Hindu philosopher raised a corner of the veil from the statue of the divinity; and still the trembling robe remains raised, and I gaze upon as fresh a glory as he did, since it was I in him that was then so bold and it is he in me that now reviews the vision. No dust has settled on that robe; no time has elapsed since that divinity was revealed." Henry David Thoreau - Walden Pond
BRO. BENJAMIN FRANKLIN: Commenting on a sect which had not set down its doctrine in writing, to avoid the future limitations of dogma, Bro. Franklin wrote (perhaps refering to Freemasonry): "The modesty of this sect is perhaps the singular instance in the history of mankind, every other sect supposing itself in possession of all truth, and that those who differ are so far in the wrong. Like a man traveling in foggy weather, those at some distance before him on the road he sees wrapped up in the fog, as well as those behind him, and also the people in the fields on either side, but near him all appears clear, tho' in truth, he is as much in the fog as any of them."
Bro. Benjamin Franklin in answer to questions posed by a minister and friend shortly before his death: "You desire to know something of my Religion ... Here is my Creed: I believe in one God, Creator of the Universe. That he governs it by his Providence. That he ought to be worshipped. That the most acceptable Service we render to him is doing good to his other Children. That the soul of Man is immortal, and will be treated with Justice in another Life respecting its Conduct in this. These I take to be the fundamental Principles of all sound Religion, and I regard them as you do in whatever Sect I meet them."
"A light shines in the darkness, and the darkness shall not overcome it." St. John of Jerusalem
"That it will never come again is what makes life so sweet." Emily Dickinson
THE INSTALLATION RITUAL
"Let us raise the standard to which the honest and the honorable can repair." Bro. George Washington
"Great men are those who realize that the spiritual is greater than any material force, that thoughts rule the world." Ralph Waldo Emerson
"Life teaches us to be less harsh with ourselves and others." Bro. Johann von Göethe
"The government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction. to persecution no assistance, requires only that those who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens in giving it on all occasions their perpetual support." Bro. George Washington - as inscribed on the monument located at the intersection of Wacker and Rush St. in Chicago.
"Wisdom has built her house; She has hewn out its seven pillars ... and she calls from the highest point in the city, 'Let all who are simple come in here! Walk in the way of understanding ... Rebuke a wise man and he will love you. Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still. Teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning." King Solomon
"The almighty lecturer, by displaying the principles of science in the structure of the Universe, has invited us to study and to imitation. It is as if God had said to the inhabitants of this globe that we call ours, 'I have made an Earth for you to dwell upon and I have rendered the starry Heavens visible to teach you science and the Arts. You can now provide for your own comfort and learn from my munificence to all to be kind to each other." Thomas Paine - The Age of Reason
ADJOURNING TO REFRESHMENT
"There is nothing better than to eat, drink and do good to others." Ecclesiastes
"The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time." Abraham Lincoln
"Give of yourself... you can always give something, even if it is only kindness." Diary of Anne Frank
"When I was young, I admired clever people, now that I am old, I admire kind people." Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
ADDITIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS
"Only that day dawns to which we are awake. The sun is but a rising star. These may be but the Spring years in the history of the human race." - Thoreau - Walden Pond

All images by Bro. Jim McDermott (The panoramic images were produced with the fine Italian camera and innumerable batteries temporarily donated by Bro. Fred Bloss). My apologies to those officers whose obligations were not caught on film as a result of the several moments when the flash did not respond or when battery replacement was required and my alternate camera could not be retrieved and booted with sufficient rapidity. Additional photographs of the event may be acquired by contacting Bro. Fred Bloss
